Primary School - Learning Support Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs in a primary school setting? Luke Maling at Academics is working with a well-regarded SEN primary school in Haywards Heath, seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their team.

This is a rewarding opportunity to help young learners with a range of additional needs thrive in a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to primary-aged pupils with SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SLD, PMLD, and communication needs.

• Assist the class teacher in adapting and delivering lessons that meet the individual needs and learning styles of each student.

• Work closely with the SENCO and support staff to implement and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

• Foster a safe and inclusive classroom environment that builds confidence, independence, and a love for learning.

• Use appropriate strategies to support students' academic progress, social development, and emotional regulation.

• Assist with personal care and mobility support when required, ensuring all pupils are treated with dignity and compassion.

Requirements

• Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs, ideally in a primary school or specialist setting.

• A solid understanding of SEND strategies, including differentiation, positive behaviour support, and communication systems such as PECS or Makaton.

• A patient, proactive, and caring nature with a genuine interest in supporting children's development.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
