Job summary

Nether Green Junior School is seeking a dedicated Learning Mentor (Level 1) to join our pastoral and safeguarding team. The role supports pupils facing social, emotional, personal or behavioural barriers to learning, through one-to-one and small group mentoring that helps them engage more effectively with school life.

You will assess pupil needs, agree and review individual action plans, and deliver targeted interventions to build confidence, motivation and resilience.

Qualifications

• Strong listening skills and ability to handle sensitive situations with integrity.
• Able to communicate clearly with adults and children, in writing and verbally.
• Ability to build good relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers.
• Understanding of strategies to support young people with challenging behaviour in school.
• Ability to tailor interventions to individual pupils.
• Solid safeguarding policies knowledge and ability to apply them.
• Flexible to changing workload and new challenges.
• Proficient in using IT systems to analyse and report.

Responsibilities

• Assess pupil needs and barriers to learning.
• Agree and review individual action plans and deliver targeted interventions.
• Support pupils one-to-one and in small groups to boost confidence and resilience.
• Monitor attendance and assist with key transitions.
• Contribute to safeguarding and work with families, staff and external agencies.
• Attend training and meetings to maintain up-to-date practice.
