At Compass School, we are a specialist Alternative Provision supporting pupils who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion, and those unable to consistently access mainstream education. We work with pupils across Key Stages 1–4, helping them overcome barriers and rediscover a love of learning.
Our trauma-informed, relational approach is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that by fostering trust, respect and understanding, we can create an environment where every pupil feels safe, valued and supported on their educational journey.
Purpose of the Role
Role
As a Learning Mentor, you will play a key role in helping our pupils thrive both inside and outside the classroom by:
- Leading and coordinating enrichment activities.
- Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups through bespoke interventions.
- Promoting positive social, emotional and mental wellbeing.
- Helping remove barriers to learning and raising aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
- Build trusting relationships with pupils, supporting their personal growth and confidence.
- Deliver targeted interventions to improve pupils' wellbeing and engagement.
- Provide high quality guidance on careers, education, training and employment.
- Work collaboratively with parents/carers and other stakeholders to maximise pupil success.
- Support pupils in overcoming attendance, behavioural, and emotional challenges.
- Model restorative practice and promote an inclusive school ethos.
- Lead learning-to-learn activities and enrichment programmes.
- Monitor progress, contribute to individual learning plans and behaviour management strategies.
- Ensure safe participation in offsite activities, completing risk assessments as required.
- Provide welfare support, including first aid and support for personal or medical needs (with training).
