Job summary

Catering is seeking a Learning Disability Support Worker to join our team in Hull and surrounding areas. You will support young people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour in community and home settings, delivering person-centred assistance to help them gain independence and confidence.

Qualifications

  • 12 months experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.
  • PMVA training.
  • Strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills.
  • Experience promoting independent living skills such as routines and nutrition.
  • Confidence using digital care planning systems for accurate record keeping.
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK (Right to Work documentation required).
  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People or Adults).

Responsibilities

  • Providing consistent, person-centred support to young people with learning disabilities and complex needs in their homes and local community.
  • Planning and facilitating engaging, structured activities to build independence and social confidence.
  • Supporting with daily living skills including meal planning, shopping, dietary needs and personal routines.
  • Applying PMVA techniques and de-escalation strategies to safely manage challenging behaviours.
  • Maintaining accurate and professional digital care notes, risk assessments, and incident reports.
  • Collaborating with families, carers, and multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) to ensure positive outcomes.

Your Responsibilities as a Community Support Worker

As a Support Worker specialising in learning disabilities and complex needs, your key duties will include:

Essential Requirements

To be successful in this Learning Disability Support Worker role, you must have:

  • At least 12 months experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.
  • PMVA training
  • Strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills.
  • Experience promoting independent living skills such as routines and nutrition.
  • Confidence using digital care planning systems for accurate record keeping.
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK (Right to Work documentation required)

Desirable Qualifications

First Aid training or equivalent.
