Job summary

Learning Disability Support Worker role in Huddersfield and surrounding area focuses on supporting young people with learning disabilities in the community, helping them gain independence and confidence. The position offers flexible working patterns and a competitive hourly salary.

You will join a health and social care team, with 4-week rotas, ongoing training, career progression, and 24/7 support to ensure positive outcomes for clients and families.

Qualifications

  • Essential: PMVA training, strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills, experience promoting independent living skills, able to use digital care planning systems.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK (Right to Work) and a valid UK driving licence with access to vehicle.
  • Desirable: First Aid training or equivalent.
  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People or Adults).

Responsibilities

  • Providing consistent, person-centred support to young people with learning disabilities and complex needs in their homes and local community.
  • Planning and facilitating engaging, structured activities to build independence and social confidence.
  • Supporting with daily living skills including meal planning, shopping, dietary needs and personal routines.
  • Applying PMVA techniques and de-escalation strategies to safely manage challenging behaviours.
  • Maintaining accurate and professional digital care notes, risk assessments, and incident reports.
  • Collaborating with families, carers, and multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) to ensure positive outcomes.

Your Responsibilities as a Community Support Worker

Essential Requirements
  • At least 12 months experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.
  • PMVA training
  • Strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills.
  • Experience promoting independent living skills such as routines and nutrition.
  • Confidence using digital care planning systems for accurate record keeping.A valid UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK (Right to Work documentation required)
  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People or Adults).
Desirable Qualifications
  • First Aid training or equivalent.
