Job summary

Cardiff and Vale College is seeking a dedicated learner support worker to assist students with literacy, numeracy, ESOL, study skills and wellbeing. The role involves delivering sessions, providing one-to-one support, and working with college teams to improve engagement and attainment.

You will monitor learner progress, support wellbeing needs, and help deliver programmes like WEST. Applications close 20 August 2026.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting learners in literacy, numeracy, ESOL, study skills or wellbeing.
  • Ability to monitor progress and identify learners at risk of disengagement.
  • Experience working with curriculum teams to boost learner engagement and achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and group support in classrooms and drop-in sessions.
  • Deliver targeted sessions and track learner progress against KPIs.
  • Support administration of West Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST).
  • Respond to safeguarding concerns and support vulnerable learners.
  • Collaborate with external agencies to promote learner success.

Support learners with essential skills, study skills and wellbeing needs, enabling them to complete their journey through college and progress to further study or employment.

The role involves providing high-quality one-to-one and group support, while working collaboratively with curriculum teams to improve learner engagement, retention and achievement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to learners in literacy, numeracy, digital skills, ESOL, study skills and wellbeing.
  • Deliver targeted sessions and one-to-one support in a variety of settings, including classrooms and drop-in sessions.
  • Monitor and track learner progress, supporting those at risk of disengagement.
  • Support the delivery and administration of the Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST).
  • Provide wellbeing support, including responding to safeguarding concerns and supporting vulnerable learners.
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum teams and external agencies to support learner success.
  • Contribute to student engagement activities, KPI targets and continuous improvement.

  • You have experience of working in a support, pastoral or skills-focused role.
  • You are organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload.
  • You communicate effectively and build positive relationships with learners and colleagues.
  • You are flexible and adaptable, with a learner-centred approach.
