Job summary

East Surrey College is seeking an Engagement Coach to support learners facing barriers to attendance, including illness, safeguarding concerns or personal circumstances. You will build trusted relationships with learners aged 14–19, providing coaching and practical support to help them stay connected to learning and reintegrate when ready.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with young people aged 14-19 and/or vulnerable learners.
• Experience supporting individuals who face barriers to education or participation.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and professional boundaries.
• An understanding of learner engagement, attendance and retention strategies.
• Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
• An ability to engage, motivate and coach reluctant or vulnerable learners.
• Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK; no sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining regular and purposeful contact with learners experiencing absence or reduced attendance.
• Building positive relationships to promote confidence, motivation and engagement with learning.
• Developing personalised reintegration plans with phased returns and flexible transitions.
• Supporting learner engagement, welfare, attendance, safeguarding and reintegration.
• Tracking engagement with remote learning and independent study.
• Working with curriculum teams, parents, carers, safeguarding staff, SEND colleagues and external agencies.
• Contributing to attendance, retention and inclusive practice across the College.
