Job summary

The City of Winter Haven is seeking an ambitious Water Utility Services Crew Leader to guide a small to medium crew in water distribution and sewer system maintenance. You will supervise field staff and perform repairs, installations, and inspections across water and wastewater lines, meters, and valves.

Daily duties include reading maps, scheduling work, and coordinating with customers; after-hours on-call rotation and emergency response are required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school, or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in the construction, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater utility systems.
• Must possess a certification of Asbestos Abatement Worker or obtain this certification within six (6) months from date of employment.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct a utility crew in water and sewer construction and repairs.
• Plan, schedule, supervise, and evaluate crew work on water and wastewater systems.
• Troubleshoot wastewater pump stations and service diesel equipment.
• Install and modify water/sewer connections, valves, meters, and piping.
• Read maps and plans to locate mains; excavate and lay pipe.
• Operate trucks and heavy equipment to various sites.
