Job summary

Northern is seeking a Utilities and Commodities Procurement Manager to lead energy procurement strategy and manage spend across our estate in York, Leeds or Manchester. You will collaborate with suppliers, other train operators and the DfTO to deliver value, sustainability, and risk management.

You’ll negotiate contracts, influence senior stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement across multi-site operations.

Qualifications

• Experience managing utilities-related projects and delivering improvements.
• Strong commercial and contract management skills, including experience negotiating complex agreements and terms.
• Ability to build effective relationships with suppliers, internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Confident communication with senior leaders and board level.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of Northern’s utilities and commodities portfolio to secure best value while meeting environmental goals.
• Manage relationships with utility and commodity suppliers, meter operators and stakeholders including Network Rail.
• Lead utility and commodity tender exercises from shaping requirements to contracting terms.
• Influence and manage contracts within delegated authority and ensure compliance with procurement policies.
• Lead on claims and contractual issues including losses and overcharges.
• Oversee utility asset register and data in the Utilities Database with suppliers and Meter Operators.
• Provide subject matter guidance on DfT Operator efficiency programmes.
• Translate complex utility data into clear insights for stations, engineering and senior leaders.
• Collaborate with outsourced contractors to ensure efficient delivery of utility processes.
