Job summary

Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, is seeking a Snr Principal Systems Engineer - Modelling & Simulation for unmanned systems. You will lead modelling, simulation and control across the lifecycle, designing high‑fidelity 6‑DOF models, developing flight-critical control laws, and validating systems through SIL/HIL testing and Iron Bird demonstrations.

You will work across requirements through to field trials, mentoring engineers and supporting field tests in dynamic environments.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience in complex aerospace, defense, robotics, autonomy or unmanned systems.
• Expert in MATLAB and Simulink, including Stateflow for state-machine design.

Responsibilities

• Lead modelling, simulation and control activities for complex unmanned systems.
• Design high-fidelity 6-DOF digital models of unmanned systems.
• Develop, test, tune and deploy flight-critical control laws and autonomy functions.
• Create resilient trajectory guidance and GNSS-denied navigation algorithms.
• Build simulation environments combining dynamics, controls, sensors and comms.
• Support SIL/HIL and full-scale aircraft testbed activity, including Iron Bird development.
• Implement onboard data communication interfaces (CAN, serial, Ethernet).
• Mentor junior engineers and communicate technical risk to stakeholders.
