Job summary

SYSTRA UK & Ireland seeks a Principal Engineer to lead the delivery of tunnelling projects, including detailed design and coordination across multidisciplinary teams. The role focuses on underground space design, rock mass assessment, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations within complex infrastructure projects in the UK.

The successful candidate will supervise teams, develop design standards, and contribute to bids and technical development within the Technical Directorate

Qualifications

• Experience in construction detailed design of tunnels and underground space.
• Soil and hard rock tunnelling design on land and under the sea.
• 2D and 3D modelling of underground space.
• Tunnel support design in rock and soil using scan lines and standard software packages.
• Rock bolting design using 2D and 3D programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead production and approval of design concepts, drawings, specifications and technical documents.
• Establish internal design standards to improve quality and efficiency.
• Work within project teams to achieve objectives and supervise others as needed.
• Prepare and check engineering designs, calculations, and reports; sign off design certificates.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental legislation compliance, especially CDM regulations.
• Support bid activities and development of deliverables within the Technical Directorate.
