Job summary

The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Lead Theatre Practitioner - Anaesthetic to provide clinical leadership across the perioperative pathway.

You will mentor staff, ensure safety processes, and drive service improvements while maintaining high standards of patient care and collaboration with nurses, surgeons and support teams.

Qualifications

• Significant theatre experience (scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics).
• Demonstrated clinical leadership and ability to role-model peers.
• Strong knowledge of patient safety, safeguarding, infection control and governance.
• ENB 998 and/or mentorship course.
• Approved/recognised anaesthetic course.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team.
• Ensure WHO surgical safety checks are carried out per hospital policy.
• Maintain clinical credibility and lead in complex or high-risk situations.
• Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff.
• Mentor and coach junior staff, including students and new staff.
• Support development and assessment of competencies within the team.

Lead Theatre Practitioner - Anaesthetic

The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

Contract: 37.5 Hours & Permanent

Salary: Up to £58,800.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

Duties Of This Role Include

• Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team.
• Ensure that all patient safety checks, including WHO surgical safety processes, are carried out in accordance with hospital policy.
• Maintain clinical credibility by demonstrating best practice, supporting others, and taking the lead in complex or high-risk situations.
• Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and accountability.
• Support the development and assessment of competencies within the team, promoting continuous professional development.
• Actively mentor and coach junior staff, including students and newly qualified team members.

Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria

• NMC or HCPC registered practitioner with significant experience in a theatre environment (e.g. scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics).
• Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and ability to act as a role model to peers.
• Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control, and clinical governance.
• Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant qualification [for scrub leads].
• ENB 998 and/or mentorship course.
• Approved / recognised anaesthetic course.
• ILS.
• Excellent communication, organisation, and mentoring skills.
• Commitment to personal development and supporting the development of others.
• Specialist training in a defined clinical area (e.g. orthopaedics, robotics, cardiac, major surgery).
• Experience in leading audits, service improvement projects, or clinical teaching.
• Previous experience working within the independent healthcare sector or multidisciplinary surgical teams.
• Familiarity with theatre scheduling systems and electronic patient records.
