Job summary

Circle Health Group's Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow is seeking a Lead Theatre Practitioner to oversee the perioperative pathway within the theatres team. This full-time role at 37.5 hours per week involves acting as a specialist lead, delivering high-quality patient-centred care and ensuring safety processes.

The role requires extensive theatre experience, leadership ability, and mentoring skills. The package includes a competitive salary up to £58,800 and a range of benefits.

Qualifications

  • NMC or HCPC registered practitioner with theatre experience.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership and ability to lead peers.
  • Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control, governance.
  • Scrub Lead qualification or Surgical First Assistant.
  • ENB 998/mentorship or equivalent.
  • Approved anaesthetic course and ILS.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and mentoring skills.
  • Specialist training in a defined clinical area (e.g. orthopaedics, robotics, cardiac, major surgery).
  • Experience leading audits or service improvement projects.
  • Experience in independent healthcare sector or multidisciplinary surgical teams.
  • Familiarity with theatre scheduling systems and electronic patient records.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred perioperative care as a specialist or lead within the team.
  • Ensure patient safety checks and WHO surgical safety processes are observed.
  • Maintain clinical credibility and lead in complex/high-risk situations.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre staff and support teams.
  • Support development and assessment of team competencies and CPD.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff and students.

Lead Theatre Practitioner - Anaesthetic

Salary: Up to £58,800.00 per year
(depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow Is part of Circle Health Group , Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Lead Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatres department.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:
  • Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team.
  • Ensure that all patient safety checks, including WHO surgical safety processes, are carried out in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Maintain clinical credibility by demonstrating best practice, supporting others, and taking the lead in complex or high-risk situations.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and accountability.
  • Support the development and assessment of competencies within the team, promoting continuous professional development.
  • Actively mentor and coach junior staff, including students and newly qualified team members.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • NMC or HCPC registered practitioner with significant experience in a theatre environment (e.g. scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics).
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and ability to act as a role model to peers.
  • Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control, and clinical governance.
  • Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant qualification [for scrub leads].
  • ENB 998 and/or mentorship course.
  • Approved / recognised anaesthetic course.
  • ILS.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and mentoring skills.
  • Commitment to personal development and supporting the development of others.
  • Specialist training in a defined clinical area (e.g. orthopaedics, robotics, cardiac, major surgery).
  • Experience in leading audits, service improvement projects, or clinical teaching.
  • Previous experience working within the independent healthcare sector or multidisciplinary surgical teams.
  • Familiarity with theatre scheduling systems and electronic patient records.
