Job summary

The Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor, part of Circle Health Group, seeks a Lead Theatre Practitioner to oversee anaesthetics/recovery across the perioperative pathway. 37.5 hours weekly with a flexible shift pattern; salary up to £54,316.02 depending on experience.

Lead the theatre team, ensure patient safety checks and governance, and collaborate with clinicians to maintain continuity of care. Applications from experienced NMC/HCPC registered practitioners are welcome.

Qualifications

• Registered practitioner with significant theatre experience (scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics).
• Demonstrated clinical leadership and role modelling for peers.
• Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control and governance.
• Scrub lead qualification (Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant).
• ENB 998 and/or mentorship course, approved anaesthetic course, ILS.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway.
• Ensure WHO surgical safety checks and hospital policy adherence.
• Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre staff and maintain professional culture.
• Act as advocate for patients, safeguarding rights, safety and dignity.
• Collaborate with anaesthetists, surgeons and recovery staff to ensure patient flow.

The Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Lead Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatredepartment.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours per week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:

Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team.

Ensure that all patient safety checks, including WHO surgical safety processes, are carried out in accordance with hospital policy.

Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and accountability.

Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their rights, safety, and dignity are upheld at all times.

Apply all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures to theatre operations, ensuring adherence to professional and regulatory standards.

Work collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons, recovery staff, and wider hospital teams to ensure effective patient flow and continuity of care.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

NMC or HCPC registered practitioner with significant experience in a theatre environment (e.g. scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics).

Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and ability to act as a role model to peers.

Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control, and clinical governance.

Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant qualification [for scrub leads].

ENB 998 and/or mentorship course.

Approved / recognised anaesthetic course.

ILS.

Excellent communication, organisation, and mentoring skills.

Commitment to personal development and supporting the development of others.

Experience in major orthopaedics is desired.
