Job summary

RINA is seeking a highly experienced Lead Design Engineer to join its Power Systems Consulting team in the UK. Hybrid work from multiple offices (Manchester, Leatherhead, Chippenham, Lincoln) with commutable distance and modest UK travel.

You will lead Substation Design projects (11 kV–400 kV), oversee technical workshops, develop compliant design packages, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring safety-by-design and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree (CEng preferred).
• At least 10 years in electrical transmission and distribution engineering, with UK project experience.
• Experience in substation design, protection & control, and SCADA is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of UK/EU standards and regulations.
• Experience mentoring graduates and junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation design projects from 11 kV to 400 kV, HV/EHV substation work.
• Lead client meetings and technical workshops.
• Produce design packages meeting ENA, BS, IEC, IEEE standards.
• Prepare engineering calculations, reports and equipment specs.
• Develop technical documentation for FEED and concept projects.
• Ensure CDM compliance and safety-by-design across projects.
• Support budgets, schedules, risk and change management.
• Collaborate with Protection & Control, Civil/Structural teams.
• Provide guidance to junior engineers and graduates.
