Job summary

Costain Group is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to lead civil/structural design across multiple infrastructure sectors in a hybrid Manchester role. You will deliver engineering input, coordinate with BIM and other disciplines, and supervise junior engineers on diverse projects requiring strong technical and client-facing skills.

This appointment focuses on buildings and structures, optioneering, and design optimization, with attendance at site/client offices as needed and 2–3 days per

Qualifications

• Excellent knowledge of design working practices and installation requirements across a range of industries.
• Extensive knowledge of UK legislation and standards.
• Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and of HSE requirements.
• Experience in buildings design/checking.
• Significant knowledge of Project Controls (Schedule, Cost, Risk and Change Management).
• Collaborative, innovative and agile.
• Experienced customer facing capability and ability to influence relationships.
• Experience with buildings and structures, optioneering assessments and supporting estimates.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for delivery of civil and structural advice, inspections, analysis, calculations, reports and specifications.
• Lead small projects and sub-tasks from a technical perspective and communicate designs to BIM teams.
• Site visits, design reviews and client meetings; mentor junior team members.
• Produce high-quality C&S engineering deliverables to schedule and budget; ensure standards and procedures are followed.
• Define client requirements and develop/build-out design solutions across various sectors.
• Support project controls including change management, risk assessment and progress reporting.
