Job summary

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS foundation Trust is seeking a Lead Speech and Language Therapist as part of its Active Neuro transition. The role involves implementing a seven-day model of care, with occasional weekend work and enhanced pay for bank holidays, and providing strategic leadership across therapy services.

You will supervise junior SLTs, lead evidence-based programmes, contribute to service development, and coordinate safeguarding and discharge planning to improve patient

Responsibilities

• Deliver highly specialist SLT assessment and intervention for clients with complex needs after neurological injury or illness.
• Lead the development and delivery of evidence-based therapy programmes with the MDT.
• Independently plan, deliver and evaluate communication therapy groups with patient-centred focus.
• Maintain highest standards of clinical care aligned with national guidance.
• Act as Key Worker for goal-setting, planning and discharge coordination.
• Provide leadership, supervision and mentorship to junior SLTs and assistants.
• Contribute to induction, education and training of the interdisciplinary team.
• Ensure compliance with professional codes, governance and regulatory requirements.
• Drive service development and quality improvement initiatives.
• Oversee safeguarding within practice to protect rights and safety.

Lead Speech and Language Therapist - Service Transformation

The Role: As part of our transition to Active Neuro, the therapy service is evolving into a seven-day model of care to better support the rehabilitation needs of our clients. As a result, occasional pre-arranged weekend working will be required. You will also be expected to work Bank Holidays as required by the service, with enhanced pay provided in line with company policy.
