Job summary

Active Care Group’s Nottingham Brain Injury and Neurological Care Centre is recruiting a Lead Speech and Language Therapist to shape the delivery of SLT services for adults with complex neurological needs.

This senior role combines a clinical caseload with service development, clinical governance and line management of therapy assistants within a multidisciplinary team. HCPC registration and neurorehabilitation expertise are essential.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration and active practicing status.
• Clinical competence in dysphagia and communication disorders after neurological injury.
• Significant post-qualification experience in neurorehabilitation or complex care.
• Experience supervising or developing therapy assistants or junior colleagues.
• Confidence in specialist assessment, complex case management and therapy formulation.
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills to influence MDT practice.
• Commitment to evidence-based, person-centred care and quality improvement.
• Enhanced DBS may be required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver highly specialist SLT assessment and interventions for adults with complex needs after neurological injury.
• Assess and manage complex communication and swallowing difficulties with tailored treatment plans.
• Plan, deliver and evaluate communication therapy groups; ensure meaningful outcomes.
• Collaborate with the MDT to influence rehabilitation planning and shared goals.
• Act as Key Worker where appropriate; support discharge planning and transitions.
• Provide clinical supervision and line management to therapy assistants.
• Share specialist knowledge through MDT training and collaborative work.
• Contribute to governance, safeguarding and regulatory compliance.

Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking for a senior clinical role where you can make a real difference to the lives of adults with complex neurological needs?

At Active Neuro, the specialist neurorehabilitation division of Active Care Group, we support adults following acquired or traumatic brain injury and those living with complex neurological conditions. We’re looking for a skilled and compassionate Lead Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Nottingham Brain Injury and Neurological Care Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice with greater autonomy, clinical leadership and service development. You’ll play a key role in shaping the delivery of speech and language therapy within the centre, championing evidence-based practice and helping clients achieve meaningful goals.

From supporting someone to communicate with their loved ones, eat and drink safely, or rebuild their confidence and identity, your expertise will help people make progress that matters to them.

This is a senior clinical role with responsibility for developing SLT provision, supporting therapy assistants and influencing multidisciplinary practice. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of your area of expertise, contribute to the development of new services and help shape the future of neurorehabilitation.

The role:

As our Lead Speech and Language Therapist, you will combine a specialist clinical caseload with responsibility for the development and delivery of high-quality SLT services.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering highly specialist SLT assessment and intervention for adults with complex physical, cognitive, communication and behavioural needs following neurological injury or illness.
• Assessing and managing complex communication and swallowing difficulties, developing individualised, evidence-based treatment plans.
• Planning, delivering and evaluating communication therapy groups, ensuring interventions are meaningful, innovative and person-centred.
• Working collaboratively with the MDT to influence rehabilitation planning, establish shared goals and maximise client outcomes.
• Acting as Key Worker where appropriate, supporting coordinated care, discharge planning and transitions between services.
• Providing clinical supervision, guidance and line management to therapy assistants, supporting their development and ensuring safe, effective practice.
• Sharing specialist knowledge with colleagues across the MDT through training, education and collaborative working.
• Contributing to clinical governance, safeguarding, professional standards and regulatory compliance.
• Identifying opportunities to improve SLT provision, develop clinical pathways and introduce innovative approaches to rehabilitation.
• Supporting the development of outpatient services and exploring opportunities to extend therapy provision beyond the inpatient setting.
• Building relationships with external organisations and contributing to the wider development of neurorehabilitation services.

About you:

We’re looking for an experienced, compassionate leader with the following:

• HCPC registration
• Clinical competence in dysphagia management and communication disorders following neurological injury or illness
• Significant post-qualification experience within neurorehabilitation or complex care settings
• Experience of supporting, supervising or developing therapy assistants or junior colleagues
• Confidence in specialist assessment, complex case management, and formulation of individualised therapy plans
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and guide best practice across the MDT
• Commitment to evidence-based, person-centred care and to driving quality improvement and innovation within the service
• Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS
