Job Description:

Come and join one of the UK's largest providers of complex care. We proudly employ over 4000+ people - no matter what your experience, we have jobs for everyone.

Are you a dedicated and experienced Speech and Language Therapist ready to take the lead and make a real difference? At Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, part of Active Care Group, we are passionate about transforming lives through exceptional care and rehabilitation. We are looking for a Lead Speech and Language Therapist to join our team and help empower individuals on their journey to recovery and independence.

About Us

Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre specialises in delivering high-quality care for individuals with acquired brain injury, neurological conditions, and complex needs. Our patient-centred approach aims to inspire hope, rebuild lives, and enable meaningful progress.

Patients like James are a testament to the life-changing impact of our work. After suffering a traumatic brain injury, James arrived at Blackheath unable to communicate or even sit up unaided. With tailored therapies and unwavering dedication from our team, James regained his speech, mobility, and independence. Today, James describes his recovery as “life-changing” and shares his story to inspire others.

Your Impact

As the Lead Speech and Language Therapist, you will:

  • Transform Lives: Design and implement evidence-based interventions that empower patients to overcome communication and swallowing challenges, helping them achieve their goals just as James did.
  • Inspire Leadership: Provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and supervision to a skilled team of Speech and Language Therapists and Assistants.
  • Drive Innovation: Lead service improvements and contribute to the development of cutting-edge therapies and practices.
  • Collaborate Holistically: Work closely with our multidisciplinary team to create and deliver personalised care plans that address each patient’s unique needs.
  • Foster Excellence: Promote continuous professional development within your team, nurturing a culture of growth, learning, and innovation.

At Blackheath, you’ll be part of a team that celebrates success stories like James’s every day. Your work will have a direct and profound impact, helping patients rebuild their lives and regain independence.

Apply today and be a part of something truly transformative. Together, we can make life-changing progress for more patients like James.

What you'll be working:

This role is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. However, we understand the importance of a positive work-life balance, and therefore, if you require some flexibility to suit your personal or professional needs, we encourage you to discuss this with us, and we will do our best to accommodate your preferences where possible.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead and manage the Speech and Language team, ensuring effective delivery of the highly specialist SLT service.
  • Plan and prioritise a complex clinical caseload.
  • Provide advanced specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing.
  • Take a lead role in diagnosis, problem formulation and planning of rehabilitation programmes within the MDT.
  • Provide intervention as part of an MDT approach and lead and implement MDT service developments.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of interventions using valid and reliable outcome measures and adherence to UKROC Database measures
  • Ensure effective and timely communication at all levels (with patients, families, the MDT and external agencies).
  • Develop and deliver in-service education and training programme for the wider MDT.
  • Keep people safe from harm and protect their human rights.

As a member of the senior management team, you will promote a culture of openness and responsiveness to the views of patients and relatives, a philosophy of person-centred care and recovery, and an ethos of positive learning from incidents within a high performing service.

What you'll have:

  • HCPC registration
  • Previous experience of working at Band 7 level in a neurorehabilitation setting
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS

We also want to ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable facilities to participate in job applications or interviews to perform essential job functions. To support this, we are a Disability Confident committed employer.
