Job summary

Amber Labs is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to provide technical leadership on major public sector programmes. You will lead engineering teams, shape technical direction, mentor developers and help deliver secure, scalable digital services in a remote-UK setting.

The role requires hands-on delivery with a focus on performance, security, and accessibility, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to drive engineering excellence across projects.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with TypeScript, JavaScript and Node.js.
• Experience leading software engineering teams in demanding environments.
• AWS cloud-native development and architecture know-how.
• Docker, Kubernetes and Amazon EKS in production.
• CI/CD pipeline development and automation expertise (GitLab preferred).
• Proficient in TDD and modern delivery tooling.
• Experience with templating tech such as Nunjucks/Twig/Jinja.
• Building accessible applications aligned with WCAG standards.
• Secure and scalable solutions for complex public sector projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor software engineering teams across programmes.

• Design and deliver cloud-native solutions on AWS.

• Contribute to technical strategy and solution architecture.
