Job summary

Mentmore in the United Kingdom is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to own a small team and shape the hardware lifecycle products for water and wastewater IoT deployments. The role is hybrid in Cwmbran, typically 1 day on site per week, combining hands-on coding with technical direction and product ownership.

You will lead three engineers, collaborate with Product, designers, customers and field engineers to define requirements, prioritise the backlog and shape the roadmap.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering experience with hands-on C#/.NET development.
• Experience leading a software team through modernisation or significant technical change.
• Product mindset: capable of shaping requirements and prioritising work.
• Experience with mobile apps (Xamarin, .NET MAUI or Flutter) and web development (React).

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop the software team, providing technical guidance.
• Set the technical direction and architecture for the product suite.
• Own product outcomes, define requirements, prioritise backlog and roadmap.
• Lead legacy modernisation and app consolidation, managing old systems.
• Design, build and maintain software across C#/.NET, React, mobile tech, Azure and Git.
• Assess mobile options (MAUI, Flutter) and start delivery of consolidated app.
• Move systems beyond Windows, support Linux environments as needed.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up legacy code modernisation.
• Identify risks, maintain quality through CI/CD and automated testing, respond to issues.
• Improve fleet operations, provisioning and deployment speeds.
