Job summary

Mentmore Recruitment Ltd. is seeking a Lead Software Engineer - Hardware Lifecycle in South Wales. The role combines hands-on coding with leadership, owning a small software team, and delivering three core products: mobile deployment, cloud fleet monitoring, and a customer-facing fleet admin platform.

You will steer architecture, manage requirements with Product Management, and prioritise delivery while aligning with customers and field engineers. Some coding time is expected.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on C#/.NET development experience.
• Experience leading a software team through modernisation or re-platforming.
• Product-led mindset with ability to shape requirements and priorities.
• Experience with mobile app development (Xamarin, .NET MAUI or Flutter) alongside web tech.
• Willingness to learn new tools and shift across stacks.
• Regular use of AI-assisted development tools.
• Experience across Linux and Windows, cloud services (Azure) and core security concepts.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Git, automated testing and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop the software team and improve ways of working.
• Set technical direction and architecture for the product suite and explain trade-offs to stakeholders.
• Define requirements, prioritise backlogs and shape the product roadmap.
• Oversee legacy modernisation and application consolidation, managing older systems.
• Design, build and maintain software across C#/.NET, React, mobile tech, Ruby on Rails, Azure and Git.
• Explore mobile platforms (MAUI, Flutter) and start delivery of the consolidated app.
• Support Linux environments alongside Windows and move beyond Windows-only approaches.
• Utilise AI-assisted tools to accelerate legacy code modernisation.
• Identify risks and debt, maintain quality with CI/CD and testing, respond to issues.
• Improve fleet operations and deployment times, reducing support demands.
