Zusammenfassung

The Open University is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to shape and operate digital products and platforms that support students and staff. You will work closely with Product and Delivery Managers in a multidisciplinary team, reporting to the Group Engineering Lead on technical direction and standards.

The role covers architecture, software, infrastructure, pipelines, testing, security and reliability, with coaching and possible line-management responsibilities.

Qualifikationen

• End-to-end technical ownership of a production digital product or service.
• Accountability for architecture, software engineering, cloud infrastructure and CI/CD.
• Hands-on engineering to design solutions, write and review maintainable code.
• Incident diagnosis, root-cause improvement and reliability work.
• Lead delivery in a multidisciplinary team with evidence-based trade-offs.
• Contribute to engineering standards and reusable patterns.

Aufgaben

• Own the product’s end-to-end technical lifecycle, from discovery to retirement.
• Set technical vision across architecture, software, infra, CI/CD and security.
• Remain hands-on; design, build, test, review, deploy and operate high-quality software.
• Explain technical feasibility and dependencies with the Product Manager.
• Balance outcomes with technical debt, cost, delivery speed and sustainability.
• Lead incidents and drive improvements using operational data and feedback.
• Coach engineers, foster shared ownership and prevent bottlenecks.
• Contribute to engineering standards and patterns beyond a single team.
