As a mobile engineer at JPMorgan Chase within Nutmeg, you will be part of a team with great ambitions. We aim to build a top-in-market suite of mobile and web apps to provide the best investment experience for our clients.

Job Responsibilities

• Work with the Product team to understand user needs and follow an Agile SDLC to develop and deliver product features to the native Android Nutmeg application.
• Take ownership of tasks from estimation through to release and post-production.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve existing or newly-identified prioritized defects.
• Write tests for all code delivered and adhere to best practices/standards, ensuring high-quality code.
• Take ownership of, or assist others with, bi-weekly releases and associated processes.
• Participate in code reviews, ensuring high code quality and continuous development and learning.
• Share knowledge actively, participate in skill-sharing sessions within the team and across departments.
• Propose, contribute, and collaborate on technical initiatives to improve and evolve the codebase and toolset.
• Focus on solving the core problems rather than just addressing symptoms.

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

• English working proficiency is essential; you will work with the London team.
• Good knowledge of object-oriented programming with Kotlin and Java.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of basic software principles like SOLID.
• Experience writing unit tests using JUnit, Kotest, or modern frameworks.
• Experience working with multi-module code using CLEAN architecture.
• Experience with MVVM, MVP, and other architecture patterns.
• Experience with dependency injection frameworks like Dagger.
• Knowledge of mobile design best practices (UI, multi-threading, asynchronous operations).
• Good understanding of core Android libraries and frameworks such as Compose, Coroutines, Flows, RxJava, Retrofit, Security.
• Experience with Android app deployment processes.
• Experience with automated CI/CD tools like Bitrise or Jenkins is a plus.
• Knowledge of monitoring and alerting for production apps.
• Understanding of REST APIs and working with APIs.
• Experience with Git flow.
• Good communication skills and ability to work within a team and coordinate with other departments.
• Curiosity and openness to new methods and ideas.
• Proactive attitude and willingness to contribute ideas.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills - nice to haves

• Experience with instrumentation testing (Espresso, Compose Tests, UI Automator).
• Experience with design systems and UI development.
• Experience with modular architecture and dependency injection.
• Understanding accessibility requirements.
• Knowledge of mobile security considerations.
• Experience with React Native, feature flagging, and A/B testing.
• Experience in the FinTech sector.
• Portfolio of work on GitHub, Stack Overflow, or similar platforms.
