What You Will Do

  • Act as a subject matter expert for stakeholders across the business helping to deploy and maintain effective credit risk strategies to embed credit risk into the DNA of consumer lending products specifically the SME products
  • Define and refine credit risk strategies for new business acquisition and portfolio management through data
  • Maintain the credit risk standards, procedures and governance processes
  • Develop and review portfolio MI to drive value added insight and activity, providing evidential performance updates to governance forums and recommendations for change
  • Highlight risks and identify opportunities on business proposals
  • Help shape and maintain portfolio risk appetite metrics, produce ad-hoc analysis to support on existing and future lending
  • Assist with the creation of new lending products and improved customer journeys
  • Assist Head of SME Credit with Credit Risk Committee responsibilities, in line with the Credit Risk Committee Governance Policy
  • Manage the day-to-day credit risk relationships with the Product function and Second Line Credit Risk function to support timely oversight and assurance activities
  • Deliver business objectives through a network of stakeholders including tech, product, distribution, IT and 2nd Line Credit Risk
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness
  • Hold key stakeholders to account for deliverables constructively

What You Will Need

  • Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders
  • Specialised expert with detailed knowledge of credit risk management and best practice applied to consumer lending and ideally specialising in SME
  • Detailed understanding and experience of the standard credit risk lifecycle, ideally within the UK SME market
  • Understanding and application of sector wide standards and issues involved in the running a business, and the key financial drivers
  • Able to problem solve, to see the bigger picture and understand how risk choices impact the rest of the Bank
  • Detailed Knowledge of Credit Reference Agency (CRA) data, preferably Experian credit bureau data
  • Aware of business trends and legal/regulatory changes (e.g. CONC/CCA/Consumer Duty)
