Job summary

Made Tech helps UK government and public sector organisations build better digital services with security at the core. The Lead Security Engineer role sits in our Cyber practice, setting technical direction on secure design, delivery, and defence for complex government programmes.

You’ll embed security across design and production, drive risk-based decisions, and mentor teams to raise security capability. This is a senior role focused on engineering discipline over compliance, with broad impact

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing secure cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP) at scale.
• Experience embedding security tooling into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.
• Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language used for production-grade security tooling.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical security architecture across engagements.
• Lead vulnerability remediation as an engineering programme.
• Drive security into the team's normal engineering rhythm with threat modelling, secure code review, SAST, SCA, and container scanning.
• Navigate UK government security standards (CAF, Cyber Essentials, HMG SPF) in multi-team environments.
• Communicate security risk to senior stakeholders and tailor reports to the audience.
• Set incident response and detection engineering standards across engagements.
• Grow the practice by mentoring colleagues and expanding security capability.
• Contribute to Made Tech's Cyber practice through standards, hiring, and external sharing.
