Job summary

True North Consulting Group Ltd is seeking a lead Scala developer for a 3-month contract in Newcastle to design and implement full‑stack solutions using Scala.

You will lead a team, review code, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate with DevOps and QA to deliver robust, scalable software on a Play Framework platform.

Experience in MacOS/Linux and strong communication are essential; inside IR35.

Qualifications

• Extensive Scala development experience and leadership in delivering backend and frontend solutions.
• Hands-on with microservices, Play Framework, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience in MacOS or Linux environments.
• Strong communication and ability to mentor a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of full-stack solutions leveraging Scala across front-end and back-end layers.
• Build and maintain microservices leveraging the Play Framework on a PaaS platform.
• Ensure best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment throughout the development lifecycle.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of developers.
• Drive architectural discussions and contribute to high-level technical decisions.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve code quality and maintainability.
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear communication for stakeholders and non-technical team members.
• Partner with DevOps and QA to ensure robust, scalable, and secure solutions.
• Actively participate in HMRC craft communities, sharing IBM best practices and thought leadership.
