Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to support the Energy team on the Great Grid Upgrade in North Wales. You will oversee commercial aspects, lead a team and ensure project value through robust cost control and reporting.

The role requires MRICS or equivalent, active RICS/ICES registration, and strong NEC/measurement knowledge. You will engage with senior management, optimise cash flow and contribute to tender activity.

Qualifications

• Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) or equivalent preferred.
• Registered with RICS / ICES.
• Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts and Standard Methods of Measurement.
• Confident, informed, quality decision making.
• Ability to synthesise information quickly and communicate reports to senior management.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently manage all commercial aspects of the Project and liaise with stakeholders.
• Assist in building a team, develop personal plans and targets for direct reports.
• Collate, analyse & challenge Cost/Value Reports and forecasts; implement actions.
• Negotiate terms with subcontractors and suppliers to deliver best value.
• Design and implement a commercial strategy for the portfolio and tenders.
• Develop and train Commercial Practitioners including APC mentoring.
• Maximise cash position: WIP control, cash flow and improvement plans.
• Advise on insurance issues including PI.
• Support work winning and attend client tender interviews.
• Ensure optimum performance of the commercial team and monitor margins.
• Monitor outturn costs monthly with bottom-up forecast.
