Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to work with Energy on Aberthaw (South of Cardiff near Barry) or Llandyfaelog (between Carmathen and Llanelli). The role will see you manage all commercial aspects, build a team, and drive cash flow, WIP, and cost reporting for the portfolio, while mentoring APCs and collaborating with senior management.

The ideal candidate is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) or equivalent, with registration with RICS/ICES, and a strong knowledge of NEC

Qualifications

• MRICS or equivalent qualification preferred.
• RICS/ICES registration preferred.
• Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and MOS is essential.
• Able to lead and develop project teams and APC candidates.

Responsibilities

• Manage all commercial aspects of the project and liaise with stakeholders.
• Build and mentor the commercial team, setting objectives and monitoring progress.
• Collate, analyse and challenge cost/value reports; implement actions.
• Negotiate terms with subcontractors to balance risk and value.
• Design and implement a commercial strategy for the portfolio and tenders.
• Contribute to training of Commercial Practitioners including APC mentoring.
• Maximise cash position with WIP control and cash-flow planning.
• Identify insurance-related issues and advise accordingly.
• Assist in work-winning activities and Client presentations for tenders.
• Ensure the portfolio's costs are monitored monthly with detailed forecasts.

Llandyfaelog is a new substation build, Aberthaw is an extension of an existing substation. The commercial team will be based off site predominantly for Stages 1a and 1b at a client co-located office in Bristol / Cardiff (TBD)

A day in the life of a Murphy Managing Quantity Surveyor

• - Efficiently manage all commercial aspects of the Project and maintain regular liaison with all stakeholders.
• - Assist in building a team, manage the development of personal plans, establishment of objectives/targets for all direct reports and monitor on an ongoing basis
• - Collate, analysis & challenge Cost/Value Reports and forecasts as required, implement required actions.
• - Negotiating terms and conditions with subcontractors and suppliers that apportion risk to those best placed to manage that risk and deliver best value to the project and the Client
• - Design and implement a commercial strategy for their portfolio and tenders with the assistance of their functional manager.
• - Assist with the development and training of Commercial Practitioners including supervisor / mentor / counsellor role for staff undertaking their APC or equivalent.
• - Assist in maximising of cash position, including WIP control, cash flow production & improvement plans for all projects.
• - Identification and advice upon of insurance related issues, including PI.
• - Assist in work winning duties as required, including proactive release of team members and attendance at Client Presentations for Tender Interviews
• - Ensuring optimum performance of commercial team for the portfolio of work, undertaking constant reviewing for margin gains in efficiency and timely resource forecasting.
• - Ensure that the outturn costs on the projects are monitored monthly through a detailed bottom up resourced and costed forecast maintained.
