Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd t/a Russell Taylor Group is seeking a Lead Protection & Control Systems Engineer for a hybrid role in Staffordshire. You will lead and advise on Protection & Control elements across projects, chair design workshops, develop SLDs, and ensure regulatory standards are met.

The ideal candidate will have strong UK Transmission & Distribution knowledge, IEC 61850 experience, and the ability to travel occasionally. A relevant engineering degree and driving licence are required.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent required.
• Strong UK Transmission & Distribution sector knowledge.
• Experience with Protection & Control technologies (vendor experience desirable).

Responsibilities

• Lead and advise on Protection & Control elements across projects.
• Chair design workshops and technical reviews with stakeholders.
• Develop SLDs, KLDs, system architectures and concept designs.
• Select technologies meeting client and regulatory standards.
• Undertake site visits and non-intrusive surveys.
• Produce and review design documentation including FDS and compliance materials.
• Create and review schematics, GAs, layouts, calculations and schedules.
• Support client approvals and ensure solutions meet specifications.
• Provide technical input for tenders and change assessments.
• Help the Project Manager and team identify and manage risks.

What will you be doing?

• Leading and advising on all Protection & Control elements across projects
• Chairing design workshops, technical reviews and working closely with project stakeholders
• Developing SLDs, KLDs, system architectures and concept designs
• Selecting suitable technologies to meet client and regulatory standards
• Undertaking site visits and non-intrusive surveys
• Producing and reviewing design documentation including FDS, design intent documents and compliance materials
• Creating and reviewing Protection & Control schematics, GAs, layouts, calculations and schedules
• Supporting client approvals and ensuring solutions meet specifications
• Providing technical input for tenders and change assessments
• Helping the Project Manager and wider team identify and manage risks

What you'll need:

• Strong understanding of the UK Transmission & Distribution sector
• Experience across Protection & Control technologies (major vendor experience desirable)
• Working knowledge of IEC 61850
• Understanding of communication systems, substation protocols and cyber security requirements
• Structured and analytical approach to engineering problems
• Ability to work independently and lead others
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work under pressure
• A relevant engineering degree (or equivalent experience)
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
