Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking a Protection and Control Engineer to join a Yorkshire-based team. The role focuses on 11kV–132kV protection and control design, SCADA integration, and documentation across landmark power projects in the region.

The ideal candidate will have an HNC in Electrical Engineering and proven experience with IEC 61850/IEC 60870, plus a full driving licence. Occasional travel to client offices and sites within the UK is required.

Qualifications

• HNC Electrical Engineering qualification.
• Proven experience in protection and control design.
• Knowledge of Electrical Networks and engineering standards.
• Ability to interpret technical design documentation.
• Experience with main substation control equipment products (ABB/Hitachi, Siemens, GE).
• Experience with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols.
• Full driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Produce comprehensive protection and control design drawings for 11kV up to 132kV systems.
• Develop protection solutions for future smart grid requirements.
• Integrate protection and SCADA systems for cost-effective design solutions.
• Create associated engineering calculations and documentation.
• Visit sites to assess project requirements and integrity of designs.
• Attend site meetings and support design drawing changes during builds.
• Review supplier/client designs for compliance with current legislation and policies.

Protection and Control Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Protection and Control Engineer to join their dynamic team in their Yorkshire, ideally someone based local to Leeds, Sheffield or Manchester, with the flexibility to travel to UK client offices and sites as required, mostly within region. This permanent role is ideal for someone looking to contribute to landmark projects and connect with some of the brightest minds in the field within the power distribution, transmission, and distribution sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce a comprehensive suite of protection and control system design drawings for 11kV up to and including 132kV systems.
• Develop new protection solutions to meet the requirement of a future smart grid.
• Integrate protection and SCADA systems to deliver cost-effective design solutions.
• Create all associated Engineering Design calculations and documentation.
• Support the creation of all necessary Equipment specifications.
• Visit Sites to assess project requirements.
• Attend site meetings and provide ongoing design drawing changes/support as required during project build.
• Review designs produced by suppliers and clients to ensure they are technically compliant and align with current legislation and policies.

Job Requirements
