Job summary

Russell Taylor Group is seeking a Lead Control Systems Engineer in Stone, Staffordshire, offering hybrid working (3 days in the office / 2 days from home). You will lead the technical delivery of process control, automation, SCADA and HMI projects across energy initiatives and shape the engineering direction.

You will coach engineers and review their work, define control philosophies and architectures, and oversee PLC software on Schneider, Rockwell and Siemens platforms, while maintaining

Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading technical delivery of complex process control projects in energy.
  • Experience producing and assuring engineering documentation, such as control philosophies, FDS/SDS, I/O schedules and test specifications.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Clear communication with customers and suppliers; willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical delivery of process control, automation, SCADA and HMI systems across energy projects.
  • Define control philosophies, system architectures, FDS, SDS, cause-and-effect and I/O schedules.
  • Lead PLC software development on Schneider, Rockwell and Siemens platforms.
  • Define industrial communications and integration (Modbus, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, OPC UA, IEC 104, DNP3).
  • Organise work packages, priorities and technical reviews across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead design reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning support and customer acceptance.
  • Manage technical risk and change; support estimates, programmes and procurement.
  • Coach engineers and review their work.

What will you be doing?
  • Leading the technical delivery of process control, automation, SCADA and HMI systems across energy projects
  • Turning customer and operational requirements into control philosophies, system architectures, FDS, SDS, cause-and-effect and I/O schedules
  • Leading and assuring PLC software development on Schneider, Rockwell and Siemens platforms
  • Defining industrial communications and integration, including Modbus, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, OPC UA, IEC (phone number removed)-104 and DNP3
  • Organising work packages, priorities and technical reviews across multidisciplinary teams
  • Leading design reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning support and customer acceptance
  • Managing technical risk and change, and supporting estimates, programmes and procurement
  • Coaching engineers and reviewing their work

Where you'll be doing it?

You’ll be joining a well-established engineering business focused on operational technology and digital transformation. With decades of experience in advanced system integration, they deliver critical projects across energy, water, renewables and manufacturing, often in highly regulated environments.

This role focuses on energy generation, storage, transmission and distribution projects. You’ll be based in Stone, with travel to customer and operational sites when required.

What you’ll need:
  • Proven experience leading the technical delivery of complex process control or automation projects in energy or a similarly regulated industry
  • Experience producing and assuring engineering documentation, such as control philosophies, FDS/SDS, I/O schedules and test specifications
  • Experience leading and organising multidisciplinary technical teams
  • A strong understanding of technical assurance, configuration management, change control and industrial cyber security
  • Clear communication skills and confidence engaging with customers and suppliers
  • Experience with Schneider, Rockwell or Siemens PLCs and SCADA platforms such as AVEVA, FactoryTalk, WinCC or Zenon (desirable)
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site
