Job description

Join to apply for the Lead Project Manager role at Severn Trent.

Severn Trent and Hafren Dyfrdwy are responsible for producing and consulting on their statutory Water Resources Management Plans (WRMP) every five years. These plans ensure we deliver sustainable, reliable water resources for our customers while meeting regulatory requirements and planning for the future.

We’re now looking for a Lead Project Manager to coordinate the delivery of the WRMP 2029 for Severn Trent and Hafren Dyfrdwy. This includes managing our contributions to the Water Resources West regional plan, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outputs while navigating complex regulatory and operational challenges.

If you have a passion for water sustainability and the expertise to drive large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects, this role is for you.

Role Overview

As Lead Project Manager, you’ll oversee the successful delivery of our statutory WRMP 2029 programme. This includes coordinating inputs from various technical workstreams, managing stakeholder relationships with regulators and regional planning groups, and ensuring alignment with other Severn Trent teams.

This role demands a hands-on approach to problem-solving, exceptional organisational skills, and the ability to balance strategic objectives with operational priorities. You will report to the Asset Strategy lead and be pivotal in determining the best solutions for the WRMP delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement a robust programme coordination strategy to deliver the WRMP 2029.
  2. Manage and prioritise the project to ensure the best value for money while meeting regulatory obligations.
  3. Act as the central point for sharing planning assumptions and data across WRMP workstreams, Severn Trent teams, and consultants.
  4. Oversee risk management to mitigate delivery risks and ensure AMP8 asset investment planning aligns with WRMP outputs.
  5. Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with broader asset strategies and delivery plans.
  6. Lead the procurement and management of consultants supporting the programme, including budget oversight and contract management.
  7. Communicate progress and findings effectively to senior stakeholders, gaining buy-in at key project milestones.
Candidate Profile

We’re looking for someone with proven experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects, ideally in a utility or infrastructure environment. You’ll need strong stakeholder management skills, including working with regulators and external partners, along with excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and health and safety regulations is essential, as is experience in budget planning and control.

Additionally, strong IT skills and the ability to interpret and present management information effectively are key to success in this role. The right character, positivity, and a caring attitude are equally important.

Benefits
  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (up to £2,250 per annum based on company performance)
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate
  • Dedicated training and development with our ‘Academy’
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers
  • Family friendly policies
  • Two volunteering days per year
