Job summary

Cummins Inc. in Cwmbran, United Kingdom, is seeking a Product Engineering Specialist to join the Meritor Sustaining Department. You will drive product development across subsystems, coordinating with product line engineers, systems teams, customers, purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing to enable informed decisions.

The role requires strong knowledge of mechanical systems, CAD/FEA tools, and advanced design methods, with a focus on safety, quality, and performance. On‑site with flexibility.

Qualifications

• Senior or lead engineer level experience in a relevant discipline with a track record of technical problem solving and quality decisions.
• Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent is required.
• Advanced experience in design, development and/or project engineering, preferably in an automotive environment.
• Working knowledge of CAD, preferably Pro‑Engineer Creo 2.
• Practical experience of test methodology and test procedures.
• Understanding of manufacturing methods and processes.
• Understanding of materials and stress/strain theory & FE Analysis.
• Familiar with latest engineering methods.
• Excellent communication, presentation & report writing skills.
• Teamwork and collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

• Drive high‑quality product development by executing established technical work at subsystem and component levels across product life cycle.
• Coordinate between product line engineers, systems teams, customer teams, purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing to enable informed decisions.
• Translate stakeholder input into clear technical recommendations for design, test, and project execution decisions.
• Apply engineering knowledge to progress projects efficiently while maintaining quality, safety, and performance standards.
• Lead and improve application of engineering processes and tools such as ESW, iDFMEA, FIRG, 7‑step problem solving, and design review checklists.
• Independently own components, systems, or smaller projects with accountability to project teams.
• Develop, execute, and improve work processes and systems within the discipline to enhance team effectiveness.
• Provide technical guidance to technicians, students, and less‑experienced engineers.
