Job summary

Hammersmith & Fulham Council in London is seeking a Principal Transport Planner (Active Travel) to lead the borough’s ambitious active travel programme and deliver projects to improve walking, cycling and micromobility. The role focuses on turning strategy into practical schemes that are safe, accessible and sustainable.

You will manage a high‑performing team, oversee budgets and contracts, and work with partners including TfL and local stakeholders to secure funding and monitor performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the borough's active travel programme and deliver projects that make streets safer, healthier, more accessible and more sustainable.
• Lead programmes spanning walking, cycling, micromobility, cycle parking, behaviour change and sustainable travel initiatives.
• Coordinate shared and dockless micromobility, including operator management, performance monitoring and infrastructure delivery.
• Secure funding, manage complex projects and contracts, and use data to identify priorities and drive improvements.
• Build partnerships with Transport for London, consultants, operators, neighbouring boroughs and community stakeholders.
