Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in the UK rail sector seeks a Principal Engineer in our OLE First Principles team to lead design work from basic principles, producing checks and calculations while guiding a multi-disciplinary group.

You will shape high-profile rail projects, apply Eurocode 3, and collaborate with FEA analysts, aerodynamicists, and clients, with flexible, hybrid working and opportunities for career growth in a world-class engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable understanding of UK OLE systems and ability to design and check designs.
• Experience as CRE/CEM or Technical Lead on projects.
• Knowledge of BS EN 1993-1-1 (Eurocode 3) and wind loading.
• Experience using STAAD and CAD tools; code-check post-processor.
• Ability to liaise with FEA analysts and aerodynamicists.
• Ability to apply first principles in non-standard problem solving using Mathcad, STAAD, Microstation CAD.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage packages to completion within budget and schedule.
• Produce and check basic design drawings, technical reports and calculations from first principles.
• Provide specialist input to support bid activity for OLE projects.
• Collaborate within busy, multi-disciplinary teams.
