Job summary

The Harborne Hospital in Birmingham, part of HCA UK, seeks a Lead Oncology Pharmacist to head oncology and haematology pharmacy services. This senior role provides strategic leadership, clinical governance and staff development within a world-class hospital environment.

You will lead medicines management, contribute to service development and collaborate with consultants and multidisciplinary teams to deliver outstanding patient care.

Qualifications

• Registered Pharmacist with the GPhC and MPharm or equivalent qualification.
• Significant post-registration experience as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting.
• Specialist knowledge in oncology pharmacy; haematology experience advantageous.
• Proven leadership with ability to motivate and develop pharmacy teams; involvement in service development, governance, audit and quality improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for oncology and haematology pharmacy services.
• Lead safe, evidence-based use of medicines across cancer pathways.

Job description

Role: Lead Oncology Pharmacist

Location: The Harborne Hospital, Birmingham, England, United Kingdom
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, between Monday to Friday

Shifts: 9:00am to 5:00pm, with participation in the on-call rota (approximately 1 in 4 weeks)
Contract Type: Permanent

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Oncology & Haematology Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Leadership Team at The Harborne Hospital in Birmingham.

This is a senior leadership role within a world-class hospital environment, working alongside leading consultants and multidisciplinary teams to deliver outstanding patient care. The Harborne Hospital provides a wide range of specialist services including oncology, haematology, cardiology, rheumatology and complex surgery, supported by state-of-the-art facilities and technology.

As a key member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for oncology and haematology pharmacy services, ensuring the safe, effective and evidence-based use of medicines across cancer pathways. Alongside your specialist remit, you will provide line management and professional leadership to pharmacists and pharmacy staff across both oncology and non-oncology services.

You will support inpatient and outpatient services, providing expert clinical input while leading the delivery of high-quality clinical pharmacy, medicines management and governance services. Working closely with the Head of Pharmacy and wider hospital teams, you will drive service development, quality improvement initiatives, audit activity and performance monitoring to ensure pharmacy services continue to meet the evolving needs of patients and consultants.

A key element of the role is developing and supporting pharmacy colleagues, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning and clinical excellence across the department.

This role would suit an experienced Oncology and/or Haematology Pharmacist ready to step into a leadership position, or an established Lead Pharmacist looking to further develop specialist cancer services within a growing hospital.

What you’ll bring:

• Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
• MPharm or equivalent pharmacy qualification
• Significant post-registration experience as a clinical pharmacist within a hospital setting
• Specialist knowledge and experience in oncology pharmacy practice
• Haematology experience would be advantageous
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to motivate, develop and support pharmacy teams
• Experience of service development, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives
