Job summary

East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust in Stevenage is recruiting an experienced Nurse Team Manager for the Children's Ward. You will provide clinical and operational leadership to a growing paediatric service, oversee staffing, patient safety and governance, and drive improvements in care for children and young people.

Qualifications

• Significant post‑registration experience in general Paediatrics at a junior management level.
• Experience coordinating and managing patient care, the shift/unit and team.
• Ability to prioritise, organise workload and delegate and supervise tasks appropriately
• Evidence of implementing and managing change
• Evidence of mentorship, teaching and assessing
• Ability to analyse, resolve issues and make sound judgements on clinical issues
• Experience of handling adverse incidents and complaints
• Personnel management including recruitment, retention and appraisals
• Evidence of audit/research recommendations and/or QI project
• Sickness management
• Desirable: Experience caring for HDU level CYP
• Desirable: Previous ward management at Band 7
• Desirable: Budget and resource management

Responsibilities

• Lead the integration of the new HDU provision and support planning, mobilisation and transition into the new ward.
• Inspire and develop staff, champion innovation and evidence‑based practice, and ensure high standards of care during a period of growth and change.
• Provide visible clinical and operational leadership for safe, compassionate and family‑centred care for children and young people in partnership with families and the multidisciplinary team.
• Lead day‑to‑day management of the children's ward, maintaining high standards of clinical practice, patient safety, safeguarding, infection prevention and governance.
• Provide expert paediatric leadership, supporting staff development, clinical competency and delivery of high‑quality care across the ward and HDU service.
• Lead workforce planning, ensuring safe staffing, deployment, education, appraisal, supervision and mandatory training.
• Monitor quality, safety, incidents, complaints, audit and performance, embedding learning and continuous quality improvement.
• Promote collaborative multidisciplinary working and ensure children, young people and families are fully involved in decisions about their care.
