Job summary

Monzo is seeking a Lead Machine Learning Scientist for its Business Banking team in the UK. The role focuses on building and deploying ML/GenAI-powered product experiences for small businesses, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver measurable impact. The position supports flexible, remote working and UK relocation options.

You will lead and execute end-to-end ML initiatives, mentor teammates, and shape product strategy around responsible AI in a fast-paced fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Proven track record delivering advanced ML models to production.
• Experience shipping ML/GenAI features in a fast-moving tech environment.
• Strong Python and SQL skills; ability to work across product and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead ML Scientist responsible for ML/GenAI capabilities in Business Banking.
• Develop and deploy state-of-the-art ML models on cloud-native data platform.
• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Engineering to identify high-impact opportunities and define success metrics.
• Decide when to use ML, GenAI, or simpler approaches and communicate trade-offs.
• Design robust evaluation and monitoring to ensure responsible, production-ready models.
• Lead batch and near real-time modeling initiatives (LLM-powered experiences, forecasting, etc.).
• Work with MLOps and Backend to operationalise models end-to-end and raise ML rigor.
• Set technical standards, mentor colleagues, and drive experimentation.
