Job summary

The Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Microbiology Consultant to join the microbiology team across trust sites. The post is full time (10 PAs) based at Southport Hospital, with agile working options and an on-call requirement (1 in 6).

Candidates must be GMC-registered and either on the Specialist Register or due to obtain CCT within six months of interview. Applicants from non-UK training will need to show UK equivalence.

Qualifications

• Fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) at time of application.
• Must be on the GMC Specialist Register or have CCT within six months of interview.
• Non-UK trained applicants must show evidence of UK equivalence.

Responsibilities

• Lead microbiology clinical service across Trust sites with antimicrobial stewardship leadership.
• Contribute to OPAT and cross‑site MDT meetings; flexible ward presence as needed.
• Participate in developing the formal job plan with Clinical Director within 3 months of start date.
