Job summary

Specialist Plant Associates in Wellingborough is seeking a skilled Plant Fitter to maintain and repair mechanical plant equipment within the workshop. You will be supported by the Plant Manager and Workshop Foreman, mentoring junior team members and promoting best practices.

The role requires a time-served background with strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical and basic electrical systems, and a solid understanding of UK H&S regulations.

Qualifications

• Time-served Plant Fitter or equivalent qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds)
• Proven experience in plant maintenance and repair
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and basic electrical systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
• Good understanding of UK H&S regulations and safe working practices
• Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and leadership abilities

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair mechanical plant equipment in the workshop.
• Interpret OEM manuals, method statements, and risk assessments to ensure safe systems of work.
• Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems.
• Lead the mobilisation of specialist plant equipment including ventilation systems and tunnelling gear.
• Assist other parts of the group with crane rigging and maintenance of excavator fleet.
• Mentor apprentices and junior fitters through on-the-job training.
• Carry out inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.
• Accurately complete and submit records.
• Assist planning, stock control and continuous improvement.
• Ensure LIFE values are implemented in decision making.
