Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead our water team on UK projects from concept to delivery. You will drive mechanical design for pumping systems, valves, and air blowers, and coordinate with civil, electrical, and process engineers across multiple offices.

You’ll develop feasibility and detailed designs, review drawings and specifications, and manage budgets and schedules to meet ambitious targets. Hybrid working and global collaboration are core features of the role.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
• Experience in water and/or wastewater industry.
• Experience in pump station design, piping design, valve selection, hydraulics, producing and reviewing engineering reports, designs, drawings, and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design team on water and wastewater projects.
• Develop feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, and provide construction support.
• Prepare and review pumping and air blower system designs.
• Produce layouts, datasheets, and P&IDs; select mechanical plant and technical specifications.
• Manage budgets, schedules and deliverables; ensure high technical quality and client relationships.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across offices.
