Job summary

Egis is expanding its UK Water team and seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer to drive design for major water and wastewater projects across the UK. You will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment to deliver technically robust and sustainable treatment solutions.

The role is hybrid with London, Bristol, and other UK sites, offering rapid progression, visibility, and a chance to shape the mechanical capability within a fast-growing group.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant institution (IMechE).
  • Typically 7-10+ years of mechanical design experience in water/wastewater sectors.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary mechanical design teams on complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK water industry standards and CDM 2015.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design delivery on water/wastewater projects across the full design lifecycle.
  • Act as mechanical technical lead, owning design strategy and key decisions.
  • Review and approve C&Ds, P&IDs, layouts, and supplier submissions.
  • Lead equipment selection for pumps, pipework, valves, tanks, and process systems.
  • Contribute to optioneering, value engineering, design reviews, and constructability.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces across Process, EICA, civil/structural, and MEP.
  • Promote standardised tools, BIM/3D coordination, and data-driven design.
  • Provide technical assurance and support project managers on risk and change control.
  • Mentor engineers and support chartership progression.
  • Contribute to bids, client engagement, and growth of the mechanical capability.
