Job summary

Morson Group is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to design hydraulic and actuation systems for a major submarine platform programme. You will provide technical leadership, guide architecture decisions and own design solutions across the project lifecycle.

The role emphasizes oversight of hydraulic system assurance, calculation verification, and collaboration with suppliers to ensure conformance to safety and performance requirements.

Qualifications

• Strong experience designing hydraulic systems in safety-critical environments (maritime, defence, nuclear, oil & gas).
• Familiarity with hydraulic power units (HPUs), VFDs, control cabinets, pumps, motors, actuators and fluid mechanics.
• Proven capability delivering system lifecycle from concept to commissioning.
• Demonstrated leadership through technical direction or project ownership.
• Chartered engineer or working towards accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership, owning design solutions and guiding others.
• Lead the technical assurance of hydraulic systems for next-gen submarines.
• Verify calculations are complete and aligned with technical intent.
• Support team in tackling technical challenges and provide effective solutions.
• Coordinate programmatic initiatives and lead additional work packages outside normal scope.
• Drive governance through peer reviews and design reviews, addressing shortfalls in documentation or process.
