Job summary

Morson Edge in the United Kingdom is seeking a Principal Engineer - Mechanical Engineer (Platform Systems) for a submarine programme. The contract runs for 12 months, paying £67.47 per hour Umbrella - inside IR35, with 2 days on site every 2 weeks.

The role leads mechanical design of hydraulic and actuation systems, providing technical leadership and steering architecture across the programme. You will own system-level design and support technical assurance throughout the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in hydraulic systems design in safety-critical environments.
• Familiarity with HPUs, VFDs, control cabinets, pumps, motors and actuators.
• Proven capability in system lifecycle delivery from concept to commissioning.
• Demonstrated leadership through technical direction or project ownership.
• Chartered engineer status or working towards accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and guidance on design solutions.
• Lead the technical assurance of hydraulic systems for submarines.
• Verify calculations and ensure alignment with technical intent.
• Coordinate programmatic initiatives and lead additional work packages.
• Drive governance through peer reviews and design reviews.
