Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical engineering activities across regulated environments. You will apply engineering principles, mentor teams, and resolve complex technical issues while ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status, a mechanical engineering degree, and extensive experience in nuclear or defence sectors, with strong stakeholder engagement and lifecycle project experience.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
• Chartered Engineer (CEng).
• Experience leading teams delivering mechanical engineering and analysis activities.
• Nuclear or Defence industry experience.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience across full project lifecycles and regulated industries.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams delivering mechanical engineering work within scope, time, and quality requirements.
• Provide technical oversight and approval of engineering outputs (calculations, analyses, reports, specifications, and method statements).
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Act as a subject matter expert in mechanical systems, solving complex technical problems and supporting project delivery.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships and support business development activities.
• Develop team capability through coaching, mentoring, and effective resource management.

Education
