Job summary

Employment Solutions Ltd is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a senior engineering function delivering complex projects into the nuclear sector from bid through to delivery. You'll manage multidisciplinary teams, ensure engineering assurance, safety, quality, cost and schedule, and maintain hands-on involvement in technical decisions, design reviews and delivery of critical nuclear projects.

Based in Chorley with regular on-site presence.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams from bid through to execution and close-out.
• Provide engineering direction and assurance across designs, calculations and deliverables.
• Manage scope, budgets, schedules, resources and technical risks with recovery strategies when needed.
• Ensure designs comply with nuclear safety and related standards (UKCA/CE, LOLER, PUWER, CDM).
• Mentor and develop engineers while fostering a nuclear safety culture.

Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to take a senior leadership role within a specialist engineering business delivering complex projects into the nuclear sector.

You’ll lead multidisciplinary engineering teams from bid and concept through detailed design, manufacture, installation and commissioning, taking responsibility for technical delivery, engineering assurance, safety, quality, cost and schedule.

This position would suit a professionally registered Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in nuclear engineering and technical leadership. It will appeal to someone who enjoys leading and developing engineering teams while remaining closely involved in technical decision-making, design assurance and the successful delivery of complex engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, taking responsibility for the successful technical delivery of projects from bid through to execution and close-out
• Provide technical direction and engineering assurance, reviewing and approving designs, calculations and technical deliverables to ensure safe and compliant solutions
• Manage engineering scope, budgets, schedules, resources and technical risks, implementing recovery strategies where project performance deviates from plan
• Ensure designs comply with nuclear and conventional safety requirements, including relevant legislation and standards such as Machinery Regulations, LOLER, PUWER, CDM and UKCA/CE requirements
• Lead, mentor and develop engineering personnel while promoting collaboration, continuous improvement, engineering excellence and a strong nuclear safety culture

This position is based in Chorley and, due to the leadership responsibilities of the role, regular on-site presence is expected.

Candidates should hold a relevant Level 6 engineering qualification and professional registration, with proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects within the nuclear sector
