Job summary

Mott MacDonald seeks a Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer to lead multi‑discipline design across nuclear, defence, and civil sectors. The role combines technical leadership with project management and client liaison.

You will mentor teams, oversee design calculations and documentation, and drive bid activity while ensuring regulatory compliance and high‑quality outcomes across challenging projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered status with the IMechE, CIBSE or other relevant professional body.
• Experience in delivery of written work: Basis of Design, Equipment Specifications, Validation/Verification plans.
• Experience in highly regulated environments (Nuclear, Health/Life Sciences, Oil & Gas, Pharma or Rail).
• Knowledge of CIBSE guidelines, standards and FEED projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead building services aspects of multi‑discipline design projects from feasibility to detailed design.
• Manage and review design drawings, layouts, and schematics (HVAC, LTHW, chilled water, LEV, BMS).
• Review and check / approve design calculations and documentation.
• Guide delivery of high‑quality written work and validation plans.
• Ensure compliance with construction (design and management) regulations across projects.
• Lead bids and project estimates, including equipment and man‑hour costs.
• Drive project delivery with resource planning and client engagement.
• Mentor multidisciplinary teams and maintain strong client relationships.
• Present at internal and external stakeholder meetings at senior level.
