Job summary

Viridor in Tilbury is seeking a proactive Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical maintenance across a new Energy Recovery Facility (ERF). The role focuses on reliability, availability, and safety, reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager.

You will oversee Mechanical Technicians, coordinate planned and unplanned work, and drive improvements in a dynamic industrial setting. Join a major new facility from construction through operation, with responsibilities spanning maintenance

Qualifications

• HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
• Experience in heavy industrial or process environments preferred.
• Experience managing contractors and external service providers.
• Knowledge of PSSR and statutory compliance requirements.
• Strong IT and communication skills.
• Experience with CMMS and safe systems of work.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and deliver mechanical maintenance activities during planned and unplanned shutdowns.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies to maximise plant reliability, availability and performance.
• Ensure long-term integrity of plant assets within approved budgets.
• Manage statutory inspections and ensure compliance documentation is up to date.
• Oversee site mechanical workshop and stores, ensuring adequate stock levels.
• Drive CMMS usage for maintenance activities and reporting.
• Ensure all maintenance is carried out safely per policies and HSE requirements.
• Manage Permit to Work processes and Safe Systems of Work.
• Lead contractor management to ensure performance, safety, and compliance.
• Support MoC processes and cross-site engineering collaboration.
• Lead outages and shutdowns to achieve best-in-class plant performance.
• Develop Mechanical Technicians through performance reviews and training.
• Promote continuous improvement and employee engagement.
