Job summary

Hoare Lea in Leeds seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of data centre and mission-critical projects. You will manage the mechanical design team, coordinate with other disciplines, and ensure technically excellent, commercially aware, and timely delivery.

The role offers hybrid working with a strong emphasis on leadership, client relations, and delivering robust, sustainable building services across the UK and Europe.

Qualifications

• Qualified and recognised in the industry, preferably with Chartered status.
• Demonstrable experience leading design teams on complex Data Centre projects.
• Excellent client-facing skills with ability to manage difficult situations calmly and professionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design delivery for significant and complex mechanical schemes, ensuring objectives and technical quality.
• Define and agree the design brief with clients and manage client relationships professionally.
• Represent Hoare Lea at project meetings and actively promote our services.
• Lead internal project teams, chair meetings, and review work for quality and progression.
• Monitor costs, resources, and risks, reporting to senior leadership as needed.
• Ensure deliverables meet quality standards, accuracy, and programme deadlines.
